Rick planted his first half acre of hops in 1999 and two years later added two more acres for a collaborative grow project for Ithaca Beer Company. Over the next 10 years Rick scaled his hop growing to 13 acres, and still grows the same acreage today. The varieties have changed over the years from noble hops to Cascade, Chinook and Centennial (the “C” hops), as well as Newport, Comet and Yakima Gold. At Cobblestone Hop Yard, we are proud to be providing brewers with a true farm to glass experience. All across New York State, and down the East Coast, we are excited to taste the beers created with our hops! Located just North of the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of New York State, our hops have a delicious, unique flavor associated with only our terroir.

As a young child, I fell in love with my grandfather’s farm. I have fond memories of picking rocks, baling hay and following my grandpa around as he milked his cow and tended his other livestock. It is a dream come true that I have the opportunity to continue to farm his land by growing NY hops.

Koester Hops ( Koester Farms, LLC) is a 60-acre family-owned farm situated in the Clarksburg-Langford area of North Collins (Eden), NY. The idea to start to hops farm started with a small arbor on our patio. The first acre of the hopyard was planted in 2015 with Cascade and Centennial hops. In 2016, we expanded the acreage to 2.5 acres with additional Centennial plantings. Plans for future expansion have begun with the purchase of a 2+ acre trellis.
